SILAS .KNAPP

SILAS KNAPP, (son of Jacob Knapp and Martha Benson) born 1823 in Fabius, Onondaga County, New York. Married first, by 1850, LETITIA M.; married second, in 1860, LODY PALMER.

Silas Knapp is the mystery of the family. Not much is known about him at this time. He didn't settle near the rest of the family and has been hard to trace. There is a deed in Williams County, Ohio from about 1861 that indicates that he was living in Putnam Co., Ohio at that time. A later census for Westfield Twp., Delaware County, Ohio shows a Silas Knapp living there with his employer. The occupation given for this Silas Knapp was "basketmaker." It is assumed that this is our Silas Knapp as Westfield Township is where the Jacob Knapp family and the Benson's first settled when they came to Ohio around 1832. It looks like for some reason Silas had gone back there. His wife Lody is not listed with him there, nor are any children. Perhaps he is listed elsewhere again with his family. I have seen this happen often in the census records.

Research continues in an effort to try and locate Silas Knapp and any family he might have had.
