JOSEPH KNAPP (son of Nathan Knapp and Phebe Webster) was born in Tioga County, Pennsylvania on 19 July 1835. On 19 March 1862 he married MRS. MARIA CLARK, born 27 November 1830 in Ohio; died in April of 1875 in Watervliet, Berrien County, Michigan. After her death he married again on 27 February 1876 to MRS. JOSEPHINE WARNER, born 30 August 1832 in Vermont; died 8 January 1895 in Watervliet, Berrien County, Michigan.

Joseph came to Berrien County with his parents in 1853 and aquired a nice section of 136 acres of land. He had a manufacturing facility that made baskets and employed about 30 people from the area. He also ran a saw mill for a time.

Joseph Knapp died on 3 November 1920 in Berrien County, Michigan and was buried near his father and mother in the Coloma Cemetery, Coloma, Berrien County, Michigan.

Joseph and his first wife Maria had the following three children:

1. Edward Knapp, born 30 April 1863 in Watervliet, Berrien County, Michigan.
2. Hiram Knapp, born 6 July 1865 in Watervliet, Berrien County, Michigan.
3. Annette Knapp, born 20 October 1867 in Watervliet, Berrien County, Michigan.
